After visiting Captain Cook's monument, we headed up the road. While we were driving, Linda, our tour director, provided us with lots of information about the history and culture of Newfoundland. I had a notebook where I jotted things down as I doubt that I could remember it all. It has turned out to be very helpful as I review my photos.
Along our drive we saw wood piles at the side of the road. People cut up the wood for heating, etc. and leave them in piles along the highway. Nobody takes what doesn't belong to them. They chop wood in different areas and stack it and come and get it when needed. There are boxes of rock around pole lines to hold them down as it is windy. There are also gardens along the side of the road where some cutting has taken place. The soil is excellent and people plant their root vegetables. Again, everyone is honest and trusting and nobody takes stuff from someone else's garden.
This next stop was at Norris Point. Beautiful scenery and a craft store in case we felt like doing a bit of twacking.
My first lobster trap!
